Michela E. Barnett-Ellis is a Partner and member of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group. She joined the Firm in 2007.

Michela works primarily in the Firm’s asset and debt recovery division on behalf of large domestic and international banks.  She works closely with a group of the Firm's attorneys and paralegals on security enforcement in the real estate and banking sectors.  She is also experienced in contentious land matters and corporate and commercial disputes.

Michela has wide experience in family matters including divorce, matrimonial disputes, adoptions, child custody and ancillary proceedings.   Her practice also extends to personal injury claims, road traffic matters and possession.

Michela works closely with other members of the Admiralty, Shipping & Aviation Practice Group on aviation registration matters.

Michela takes a great interest in constitutional and administrative law, and she has enjoyed working on several prominent disputes in this area since she joined the Firm.

In December 2016, Michela was included in the Citywealth 2016 Powerwomen Top 200 listing, which recognizes  200 of the most powerful women in government, private wealth, education, private client advisory and philanthropy across the international financial centres.”  

Recent transactions include:

  • Successfully opposing an application for leave to enforce payment of child maintenance arrears;
  • Acting on behalf of an international personality in defamation suits, Norwich Pharmacal Applications and committal proceedings;
  • Acting in divorce and matrimonial proceedings where the matrimonial assets were a family business in which both parties were beneficial owners;
  • Acting in a property dispute, successfully defending the fee simple owner’s legal title to land from a 3rd party seeking to challenge the location of the Defendant’s land, and the legal description contained in the Defendant’s title documents; and
  • Acting in property litigation for servient land owner in proceedings commenced by the dominant land owner, regarding his use of a right of way.
