Graham Thompson and The Volunteer Reading Project

December 20, 2017

Nassau, The Bahamas – This past fall, Graham Thompson attorneys enjoyed a little adventure and animation with storybook classics like Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss and Julia Cook’s My Mouth is a Volcano.

Managing partner Judith Whitehead and partner Anastasia Campbell participated in a Literacy Day at the T. G. Glover Primary School, an initiative spearheaded by The Volunteer Reading Project. The Project is an exciting volunteer based outreach programme that targets government primary schools. The programme was developed a little over a year ago, by Laurenne McDonald.

Since the Project’s launch in September 2016, more than 100 readers have volunteered their time, benefitting public primary schools throughout New Providence. By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, The Volunteer Reading Project had donated more than 830 books to school libraries and over 200 students were gifted books for summer reading.

At the T. G. Glover Literacy Day, Whitehead read the book “My Mouth is a Volcano” to a third grade class and Campbell shared “Green Eggs and Ham” with a first grade class. Graham Thompson attorneys participating in the Project have also included partners Aliya Allen who participated in a reading day at the Stephen Dillet Primary School, and Michela Barnett-Ellis, who was a volunteer reader at the Albury Sayles Primary School’s literacy day.
