Nassau, The Bahamas – The law firm of GrahamThompson in The Bahamas is top-ranked once again, receiving the 2021 Band 1 Global ranking in General Business Law, from the London-based Chambers and Partners. GrahamThompson receives the ranking agency’s highest firm ranking for industry excellence, for another consecutive year. The firm’s Turks and Caicos Islands office is also ranked, receiving the Band 2 distinction.

Recognised by the international community for its standard setting rankings in legal services, Chambers and Partners’ reach covers 185 jurisdictions worldwide. The agency is prominently regarded for its deeply researched, peer review-based rankings of the best-of-the-best in the legal profession around the globe.

Not only has GrahamThompson retained its ranking among the world’s leaders, for yet another consecutive year, several of GrahamThompson’s attorneys have also been lauded with Chambers and Partners top ranking and other distinctions for 2021 in three areas. In General Business Law, Sean McWeeney QC, Michelle Pindling-Sands, Stephen Wilson QC and Christopher Wells; in General Business Law – Dispute Resolution, Stephen Wilson QC and Tony Gruchot; and in General Business Law – Real Estate Dana Wells and Craig Roberts.

General Business Law

Sean McWeeney QC, a senior partner in GrahamThompson, and head of the firm’s corporate and financial services practice group is once again Band 1 ranked by Chambers and Partners. A recognition that the former Bahamas Attorney General has received for the past 20 years.

Chambers Review: Sean McWeeney QC, is hailed as a “brilliant” and “leading lawyer” by market commentators. He has a distinguished reputation for his work on wealth management, as well as trusts and estates. He is well regarded for his litigious representation, in addition to his advisory practice.

 Michelle Pindling- Sands, who is also a member of the firm’s corporate and financial services practice group, receives Chambers and Partners Global Band 3 recognition. The GrahamThompson partner receives the honour for a third consecutive year.

Chambers Review: The “brilliant” Michelle Pindling-Sands heads the firm’s shipping group and is highly regarded for her practice in the space, and her expertise in shipping finance in particular. She additionally advises financial institutions and lenders on other transactional matters.

Christopher Wells, a partner and member of the firm’s real property practice group, has been awarded the Chambers Global 2021 “Up and Coming” ranking. He is based in the firm’s Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands office.

General Business Law – Dispute Resolution

Stephen Wilson QC, who heads the firm’s Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands office, and leads that office’s litigation and dispute resolution practice is also Band 1 ranked. A recognition that he too has received consecutively for a number of years. As he continues to represent Bahamas entities from his base in Providenciales, his additional recognitions include the Chambers Global 2021 “Expertise Based Abroad” and the 2021 “Foreign Expertise” in The Bahamas ranking.

Chambers Review: Stephen Wilson QC is regarded as a stellar litigator with a broad-ranging practice which sees him handle cases in the real estate and tourism sectors, with further expertise in banking, corporate, employment and IP disputes.

Tony Gruchot, a partner and member of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution practice, based in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands office is a first-time recipient of the Band 3 ranking.

Chambers Review: Tony Gruchot is a well-regarded partner with a core practice focus on corporate and commercial disputes. His experience cuts across a number of industry sectors, including construction, banking and financial services.

General Business Law – Real Estate

Dana Wells, a GrahamThompson Consultant Counsel, is also a multi-year recipient, receiving the Band 1 ranking again, in 2021.

Chambers Review: Market sources highlight Dana Wells as an “excellent individual” and one of the standout names in real estate. He is well recognised for his stellar land law practice, and is regularly sought out for his counsel on commercial, residential and hospitality property development mandates.

Craig Roberts, a GrahamThompson Consultant Counsel also receives the Chambers and Partners, 2021 Band 1 ranking, following many such previous recognitions.

Chambers Review: Consultant counsel Craig Roberts is one of the pre-eminent names in the market’s real estate space. He has a wealth of development and conveyancing experience, in addition to handling all manner of property transaction.

Top Ranked – Band 1 – High New Worth Firm

GrahamThompson is also a Chambers and Partners 2020 top ranked firm – Band 1 – in the High Net Worth (HNW) Offshore Trusts Sector. This prestigious HNW recognition includes individual honours for Sean McWeeney QC, who received the Band 1 ranking, and GrahamThompson Partners Tanya Hanna, a Trusts expert and Ryan Pinder, a former Minister of Financial Services and Trade, who both received Band 2 Chambers HNW rankings.
