Hubert Edwards

Practice

Hubert Edwards is an Associate in the firm’s Corporate and Financial Services, Dispute Resolution and Tax Practices.

Hubert’s practice focuses primarily on banking, capital markets, including matters such as CRS, AML/CFT; civil and commercial litigation, property dispute litigation, regulatory and tax matters.

Hubert has lectured and presented on anti-money laundering, corporate governance and regulatory subjects. He has also written extensively and presented on fiscal, economic and national development issues.

Hubert is a chartered accountant with extensive experience in financial services and exposure across a range of sectors. A former deputy managing director of a commercial bank, he has also held senior roles in one of the big four accounting firms and with the banking regulator.

Assisted with the financing of a major public private partnership concern.
Assisted in conducting a comprehensive assessment of the Government of The Bahamas’ potential borrowing needs and providing advice to a client.
Assisted at the appeal stage of litigation in a very substantial quieting matter.
Assisted with a significant client matter involving guardianship and conservatory applications.
Assisted with a range of tax related matters to include providing advice on liability for stamp tax; exemptions from real property tax (RPT); registration and liability for value added tax (VAT); reporting obligations under Common Reporting Standard (CRS); and DMTT related matters to a number of large clients.
