GrahamThompson(GT) is pleased to announce that Consultant Counsel Chia-yi Chua has been awarded Singapore’s Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) national honour, in recognition of his “outstanding contributions in enhancing Singapore’s bilateral relations with Canada and invaluable service to Singapore and Singaporeans”.

The Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) is one of the country’s highest national honours for non-Singaporeans.

Chia-yi, who heads GT’s Tax Practice, is also Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore, in Toronto, a role that he has served in since 2015. In this capacity, he has led Canada-Singapore engagement, across government, business and academic sectors. Chia-yi’s service has been essential to identifying priorities, managing institutional expectations and supporting continuity in the bilateral relationship across political and diplomatic cycles.

The Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) award “recognises senior business executives for their outstanding contributions to the economic growth of Singapore”. Since the award’s inception 28 years ago, just 53 individuals have received this distinction.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore will confer the Distinguished Friends of Singapore honour on Chia-yi and five other recipients on November 22, 2026 at the National Day Awards Investiture.
